The challenge is not simply to calculate accurately. Pupils must decide which numbers are useful, which combinations create productive intermediate values and how to avoid routes that leave unusable numbers. After completing Level 5, pupils are ready to begin the intermediate section of the 20-level programme, where larger numbers, bigger targets and more constrained solution routes are introduced.
