Number Target Challenge Level 13: Advanced Reasoning | 20 Maths Puzzles
Number Target Challenge Level 13: Advanced Reasoning | 20 Maths Puzzles
20 advanced reasoning puzzles where factor control, operation order and efficient use of large numbers become essential to finding a solution. Level 13 places greater emphasis on precise control of factors, multiples and intermediate values. Direct approaches are increasingly unlikely to succeed, so pupils must look for less obvious numerical connections. The puzzles encourage pupils to think about how numbers can be transformed, not simply combined. A large number may need to be divided, adjusted or paired with another value before it becomes useful. Included in this resource: 20 solver-verified advanced puzzles Timer-enabled PowerPoint presentation Standard macro-free PPTX Printable PDF Clear classroom-friendly layout Gradual increase in challenge This level is well suited to KS3 and KS4 enrichment, confident mathematicians, maths clubs, challenge lessons, revision starters or team competitions. Pupils can be encouraged to annotate possible routes, explain rejected methods and compare the efficiency of successful solutions. This makes the activity useful for mathematical communication as well as calculation practice. Level 13 sits at the centre of the advanced section. It prepares pupils for Levels 14 and 15, where routes become more constrained and successful solutions require increasingly deliberate arithmetic construction.
