Turn perimeter and area into purposeful algebra practice with this classroom-ready Expanding and Factorising Single Brackets Four in a Row resource.

This is Level 28 of a carefully sequenced 34-level progression. It is a advanced consolidation level, so its question selection follows the progression’s consolidation principles rather than mixing skills arbitrarily.

You receive ten complete games with 360 questions altogether. Every game has a 6 x 6 answer board, a separate numbered question sheet and a complete teacher answer key. Pupils select a square, solve the matching question and try to connect four correct answers. The familiar structure gives them a reason to calculate accurately, compare methods and keep working.

The customer resource contains polished five-page game PDFs: a product introduction, the playable answer board, the numbered question sheet, the full teacher key and a short explanation of the FIAR progression model. The complete 34-level progression ladder is also included. PDF formatting supports reliable printing. This is a digital resource; no physical item will be posted.

The mathematical focus is perimeter and area. Examples of the question types include “A rectangle has sides 3(x + 2) cm and 5 cm. Find its perimeter in simplest form.”; “A triangle has base 4x cm and height (x + 3) cm. Find its area in expanded form.”; “Factorise 12x + 18 to write the area as a product.”. These examples show the level focus; the supplied game or games contain a much broader and carefully varied selection. Coefficients, signs, variables, powers, term order and instructions change where appropriate, so pupils must read the algebra rather than repeat a mechanical pattern. Answers are controlled for game quality: every board provides a broad answer range, very limited repetition and no horizontally or vertically adjacent identical answers.

The FIAR ladder is built around discrete skills, local consolidation, full consolidation and advanced consolidation. A discrete level isolates one genuinely new method while giving complete variation inside it. Local consolidation mixes recently connected skills. Full consolidation reaches back across the progression, so less-secure pupils have accessible entry points while confident pupils still meet the current ceiling. Advanced levels use the established toolkit in unfamiliar forms and contexts without pretending that every change of surface detail is a new skill.

This makes the resource especially useful for mixed-attainment teaching. Choose the precise discrete level that matches a class, use a consolidation board when pupils need to identify the method for themselves, or let groups work from different points on the ladder. The progression document explains every level and helps teachers select an appropriate starting point quickly. It is clear, progressive and ready for immediate classroom use. It supports accurate practice, discussion and confident method selection.
