Percentage Change Four in a Row | Reverse Multi-Stage Percentage Change: Level 39 | 10 Versions
Percentage Change Four in a Row | Reverse Multi-Stage Percentage Change: Level 39 | 10 Versions
Teach, practise and revisit reverse multi-stage percentage change with this Percentage Change Four in a Row resource. This product contains ten distinct versions at the same level, built around Level 39: Find the original value before multi-stage compound change. It is a discrete point on the 43-level progression, so the mathematical demand is explicit and teachers can select it confidently for first teaching, intervention, retrieval or GCSE revision.
Question examples from this level include: After growing by 8% per year for 3 years, then growing by 9% per year for 2 years, a product is worth £2,993.33. Find its original value (nearest penny).; After falling by 3.5% per year for 4 years, then growing by 9% per year for 3 years, a product is worth £1,347.63. Find its original value (nearest penny).; After falling by 1% per year for 3 years, then growing by 2% per year for 5 years, a population is 6,428. Find the original population (nearest whole number).. These examples show the actual style and demand of the pack; values and contexts vary across the supplied questions and versions.
Each version is a complete three-page Four in a Row maths game: a numbered sheet of 36 questions, a 6 × 6 answer board and a clearly matched teacher key. Pupils solve a question, find its answer on the board and claim the corresponding space. The familiar competitive format encourages repeated calculation, mathematical talk and checking without turning the lesson into a routine exercise sheet. The board has been constructed with purposeful answer diversity and controlled adjacency, so a small set of repeated answers does not dominate play.
The progression is organised around discrete skills and two forms of consolidation. Discrete levels isolate a genuinely new mathematical decision. Local consolidation mixes the recent cluster so learners must choose between closely related methods. Full consolidation draws on everything encountered up to that point and is especially useful for mixed-attainment groups: some learners can secure earlier content while others work at the newest demand. This Level 39 product is labelled discrete so its role is transparent.
Percentage change is represented through multipliers, original and changed values, increase and decrease language, money and measures, successive changes, compound growth or decay, and multi-stage contexts where appropriate to the chosen level. Questions are designed to produce a usable spread of answers rather than an artificial board filled with the same few results. Numerical answers, required rounding, units, percentage directions and time periods have been independently audited.
Use the included level ladder before teaching to identify prerequisite knowledge, after teaching to choose a consolidation point, or during intervention to locate the first insecure step. The accompanying product-information PDF explains the FIAR and Skill Drill formats and the rationale behind discrete, local-consolidation and full.
